Tips on maintenance
Once installed, your real wood floor, laminate or luxury vinyl is simple to care for. In fact, keeping it looking its best requires very little in the way of elbow grease. All our floors are made to last when they are cared for appropriately.
As with all natural materials, wood is susceptible to wear and tear. But from muddy paw and footprints to splashes and spillages, protecting your real wood flooring is possible with a few easy steps.
- We recommend regularly sweeping the floor with a soft-bristled broom. This will remove dust and any grit. If you prefer to vacuum that’s okay too, but ideally do this with a soft brush attachment to prevent scratching the wood. Gently does it.
- When the floor needs a mop, use a well-wrung mop and avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
- For an occasional deeper clean we recommend Bona products, because they are specially formulated for natural wood floors. View our Bona products here
Aside from cleaning, there are some other basic things you can do to protect your wood floor.
Use felt protectors and castor caps on heavy furniture
- Have a no shoes rule in your home – stilettos and heavy work boots are definitely footwear to avoid on your lovely wood floor! And if you have pets, keep those claws trimmed to prevent little scratches
- Wipe up any spillages quickly to avoid staining
- Avoid too much direct sunlight. Real wood floors will naturally mature over time, so move any rugs and furniture occasionally to ensure this is even.
